I Read This in the 1980’s
As I recall, this was a really fast-moving and exciting book. This book is at least 25 years old, but I think the action and storyline make it somewhat timeless.

Nice descent and great for the people
Unnecessarily Tedious
While the basic plot is quite fascinating, there are loads of long interludes that add nothing to plot or character development. Perhaps it’s an attempt at setting up a sense of place but I found them frustrating and distracting instead of helpful. And when ninjas are being ninjas, there are lots of movements called out by name with zero information or even sense of what they mean or are. Finally, seems as if the author had a thesaurus by the writing table given the number of arcane and rarely used words that appear.
