The Ninth Passenger

The manifest lists eight passengers. At 1:13 a.m., a ninth walks into the dining car—and accuses one of them of murder.

Minutes later, an avalanche traps the Northlight Sleeper between a collapsed cutting and a failing bridge. The stranger vanishes from a sealed carriage, leaving behind theatrical blood, a forged manifest, and an antique recorder that speaks in investigator Mara Ellison's own voice—predicting a death that has not happened yet.

At dawn, railway archivist Adrian Quill collapses bleeding inside a compartment locked from within. The missing passenger appears to be the only possible attacker. But no one boarded the train after departure, the clocks disagree about forty-three missing seconds, and every piece of evidence seems to belong to one person while accusing another.

To save Quill and expose the truth, Mara must separate three carefully planned deceptions from a real attempt to kill. The answer lies in a forgotten mail duct, an altered insulin pen, a new clasp on an old watch, and a powerful institution that has spent twenty-eight years deciding which witnesses are allowed to exist.

Atmospheric, intricate, and fair-play, The Ninth Passenger is a complete locked-room mystery about identity, evidence, and the dangerous difference between preserving history and controlling it.
