The Old Army Game

The first of the Hogben stories is not actually science fiction or fantasy, or however you might classify the later ones. Published in 1941, it is the tale of Saunk getting drafted into the Army. The humor relies almost exclusively on Saunk’s ignorance. Despite being non-genre, it is non-the-less entertaining and fun to read.

First appeared in the November 1941 issue of "Thrilling Adventures". Features a hillbilly character named "Hogben", but the story is not SF and is not otherwise related to the subsequent series of Hogben stories
