Violent
A good read, a page turner, but a far cry from the first in the series. I missed the 'archeological vision' storytelling. Almost every chapter is filled with bloodshed. Graphic. Buying the next one nonetheless. Hoping it finds a middle ground.
Well worth the wait!
To say that I had been anxiously awaiting this sequel would be a major understatement! I don't think there is anyone (other than Mr. Siemsen) that was more excited about this release than I. While I had previous knowledge of the story, I was still very much holding my breath in anticipation.
I had come to know of Mr. Siemsen and his first book in the Matt Turner series on January 1, 2012. I was having the worst New Year's ever. The Dig helped me escape the pain and agony that I was in. I was bedridden for over a month starting in January and had given myself the gift of a Kindle Fire to help me through. The Dig was the first book I read on the device.
I'm not sure how I came to know about The Dig, but I am really glad that I did. I read the book faster than I had read anything else. It wasn't because it was an easier read or anything like that. It was a fantastic story idea and it got my brain thinking and I could not put the book down! I thought about the story when I wasn't reading the story. I was wondering what I would do if I were in Matt's shoes. The Opal continued that for me.
I got the book shortly after it had been released and I finished it quickly. Again, it was because I couldn't put it down. I was drawn to the story and the characters even though I already knew what was going to happen. Mr. Siemsen knows how to draw characters and develop story lines. He can have stories within stories and layers of characters in his stories and they flow into each other and draw you in. There were several times when I was reading that I found myself gripping my Kindle extra tight in anticipation. I had to stop for a minute and tell myself that it was just a book. But it's not - it's so much more.
