The Paper Currency of England Dispassionately Considered

This historical work consists of a detailed analysis of the industrial and economic conditions of England. John Haslam designed this statistical pamphlet to be published in a periodical dedicated to industrial and commercial purposes. He discusses the restrictive clauses of The Bank Charter Act of 1844 in detail and provides the necessary calculations, stats and their breakdown to back his claims. He also makes fact and data-based suggestions as a practical solution to the difficulty for the clause that provides for the redemption of the benefits enjoyed by the Bank of England, “at any time upon twelve months’ notice, to be given after the first day of August 1855.” It is an excellent means to understand the economic and industrial condition of England in the mid-1800s.
