The Pariahs are two detectives, forced to work together as man and wife. They tackle unusual cases throughout Central Illinois. The 'Mother Road' has them trying to solve a case that involves arson, murder, and thefts along Main Street America, old Route 66.

Fun mixture of characters
The book is a bit slow to get to the crime investigation. This allows for character development.
The mismatched detectives have come from witsec with new identities and a new spouse.
The pair use their different skills to find out who is committing arson to steal valuable autographed baseballs.
Along the way they deal with tv station employees who all seem to have slept with each other.
Plus a field reporter’s mishaps have developed an online fan club.
