The Path

The village. A small community whose people believe they represent the last remnants of mankind. Sturdy wooden walls protect it, keeping unseen enemies out and keeping everyone else in. A peculiar trail leads away from it, into the unknown world beyond. The adults in the village take care to warn the children about this path. Those who have been foolish enough to set out down it in the past have never returned. The stories are enough to scare all of the young people in the village into accepting their life and staying inside the walls. Almost all the young people. Marcus dreams of the path every night. He believes that it is out on that unknown trail where his destiny lies, not inside the confining walls of the village. Against the will of his family and the other members of the village, Marcus and some of his friends set out down the path. Leaving the safety and comfort of the village behind, they quickly learn that the outside world is much bigger and much more dangerous than any of them imagined.
