Publisher Description
There's always an escape. Sometimes you need to search long and hard for the right one.
After losing all he once cherished, Doug Zimmer follows his wife's parting bread crumbs and rides up the Pacific coast—on a bicycle. Armed with a revolver and only a vague plan to get through the months ahead, he aims to end his depression one way or the other.
As spiritual forces wrangle for his soul, he pedals eastward across America. He meets Lauren Baumgartner—a younger adventurer with a vibrant spirit—and a band of zealots who confront his aversion to religion. Accompanying Doug are not only sunny days and the beauty of nature but also the perils of the road, fellow travelers with their own stories, and the hollow silence of solitary campsites playing host to unseen creatures of the night.
A jarring episode on a climb through a treacherous pass brings Doug face-to-face with life and death. Will Doug's adventure deliver him from loneliness and lament . . . or hurtle him to an abrupt end?
Endorsed by award-winning novelists Patricia Bradley, Ace Collins, and Katie Powner.

Customer Reviews
Forgiveness is a choice.
This story gives us many tough questions to deal with. Losing a job, a loved one dying and spiritual issues that create many opportunities for reflection are tastefully dealt with by the author. Setting out on a scavenger hunt, an adventure, brings many of these challenges to the forefront for Doug and how he deals with them will keep you reading.
I loved all the scenery in detail - almost made me wish I was there. An ebook was received through LibraryThing and these thoughts are my own.
Good adventure story
The Persistent Road is as the title might imply, a story about a journey—one man's journey from grief and anger to healing. The author did a great job describing the scenes, making me feel like I was right there with the characters. As Doug cycled the various highways, he met a number of individuals who caused him to reflect on his life and to more diligently search for meaning and purpose in his life. It is a journey of hope and forgiveness. The cycling journey itself is quite impressive. I can't even begin to think about riding a bike hundreds of miles. There are a lot of twists and turns to the journey and the story kept my interest. There is a strong Christian theme in the book with the message of the gospel clearly laid out. Readers who enjoy stories of adventure and nature will not want to miss The Persistent Road. I read a complimentary copy of the book through LibraryThing. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions are my own.
