Paula Deen meets Erma Bombeck in The Pioneer Woman Cooks, Ree Drummond’s spirited, homespun cookbook. Drummond colorfully traces her transition from city life to ranch wife through recipes, photos, and pithy commentary based on her popular, award-winning blog, Confessions of a Pioneer Woman, and whips up delicious, satisfying meals for cowboys and cowgirls alike made from simple, widely available ingredients. The Pioneer Woman Cooks—and with these “Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl,” she pleases the palate and tickles the funny bone at the same time.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Blogger-turned-author Drummond gives readers a slice of frontier life in this likeable-enough collection of recipes and dispatches from the Oklahoma ranch she shares with her husband and children. Replicating the step-by-step photography that made her blog such a hit, Drummond walks readers through dishes ranging from simple-Guacamole, Chili, Artichoke Dip-to more complex, such as from-scratch Cinnamon Rolls and Sherried Tomato Soup. Drummond's careful coaching will help anyone intimidated by the kitchen fearlessly crank out favorites like Chicken Fried Steak, Meat Loaf and Rib Eye Steak with Whiskey Cream Sauce. While the recipes are reliable home cooking standards, relentless references to her husband, known as the Marlboro Man, range from distracting to juvenile, giving what could have been a comfort food classic the feel of a junior-high class project.
Customer Reviews
I can cook! Who knew?!
Until I met Ree's blog and then her book I was a one trick pony in the kitchen. I have cooked everyday for 6 weeks from this book. The instructions and pictures make it so easy and the ingredients are everyday pantry items. I look to her blog daily for inspiration and the only thing bad about the iPad version is I can't share the book with my friends!
THIS BOOK PLEASES THE MAN & THE WOMAN AT THE SAME TIME...FINALLY!
I am in love with this cookbook. The recipes are basic enough for most people with ingredients that are easy to find and oh so scrumptious.. It's full of some really great homestyle comfort food recipes but the pictures throughout the book are very delightful as well. If you have this on your iPad and leave it lying around on the coffee table for friends to see you may just have to let them borrow it because the recipes here are that good. I have been a chef for a very long time and have a huge collection of cookbooks in my house but this one is just so much fun to look at and read. Each and every recipe is really presented so the new cook or the old chef can have a fun time in the kitchen and always want to come back for more. You may have seen Ree on talk shows or read her blog and if your a fan or not you will be after seeing this cookbook. Thanks Ree!
