Must Read for New Users of Power Meters

I purchased a power meter (Garmin Edge 1000 - which is a terrific device with excellent customer support) more than a year ago. The only knowledge I had of a power meter is that it will improve the fitness of a cyclist.

In Part 1, Joe Friel provides a thorough teaching of the metrics collected by a power meter. The material, which can be technical, is presented in terms understandable to a rider who has no idea what "Functional Threshold Power (FTP)" means.

The practical benefits are described in Part 2, where Klein provides training plans using a power meter for a triathlon and century races. I used this training program for my first century race and finished with energy left because I paced myself at a targeted "Intensity Factor."

Data from a power meter can be overwhelming, but "The Power Meter Handbook" is a valuable resource for the new user to learn how to ride and train for greater fitness and achieve better performance in cycling events. It is a must read.

Amazing how well it has been written. Easy to understand and follow a complex subject. You nail it again.

Doesn't suit my purpose

Offers a lot of background info on what power meter is and does for different athletes, as well as data manipulation, but little by the way of training or racing plans using power meters.
