The Power

That breathing behind you is Edwin.

Of all men, why would the boy Pharaoh Tutankhamen reach through the ages to give Edwin, an inconsequential insurance actuarial, the power to be invisible? Edwin gets that reality-altering ability at a museum exhibit when his transformations begin.

Routinely ignored by women, Edwin first uses his power as a voyeur. Later, when his nemesis Imelda fires him, financial necessity drives the jobless Edwin to use his invisibility to game the stock market and get very rich. 

On an unseen visit to the FDA to gather information for insider trading, Edwin, invisible, overhears executives planning to squash an important drug breakthrough for financial gain. Their politically driven cynicism enrages Edwin and what follows is a White House press conference unlike any ever before held.

Edwin uses his invisibility to avert a dangerous military confrontation between the U.S. and China, and later, on a visit to a biotech firm, Edwin realizes that he alone can prevent a global food crisis. Each adventure gives him insight into what personal power is until Edwin, at last, discovers why it is the Pharaoh chose to give him the power.

The Power is driven by our archetypal curiosity about invisibility, our fly-on-the-wall fascination with it in the tradition of Wells' classic The Invisible Man or as seen currently in our wonderment at Harry Potter’s magic cloak. In The Power, magic becomes a metaphor to ask the questions: when does power destroy us and when does it fulfill? How does Edwin (and how do you the reader) define your power? 

The Power is a vicarious ride that leaves you feeling ever more empowered.
