As Huntley’s first publication, The Project effectively showcases the themes he would later explore: the vulnerability of the human mind and the terrifying consequences of crossing into dark, unknown territories. It taps into the universal fear of losing a loved one to something inexplicable and the desperation of pursuing a truth that might destroy you.
The story is highly effective as a piece of atmospheric horror. It’s a compelling journey that keeps the reader wondering whether Vanessa will uncover the clues in time or if she, too, will "fall to what lies just beyond the veil." For a short piece, it manages to build a surprisingly immersive and chilling world.
