The Pseudobook
Move over McSweeney's, there's another whimsical, satirical, otherworldly anthology of humor out there designed to amuse and to mystify the world of readers. Child-like and sometimes simply childish, The Pseudobook is the inspired work of two talented brothers who first conceived of their alternative history of people, places, and things, while living in East Africa at the end of the 1990s.
Musicians, digital designers, and film artists, these the authors are best described as "story makers" who merge the weird and irrational, the non-sequitur and fantastic, together in a volume both diverse in genre and delightful in execution.
Their drawings, their punchlines, their extraordinary upside-down perceptions of this universe and that one combine to bring laughter and surreal cogitation, creating images and funneling ideas that captivate your imagination, and whose very absurdity or literalness or silliness often makes them all the more plausible. When your spokesperson, Albert, is a talking barrel, what can you expect?
This is great for reading aloud to your children, for giving as a gift to your children or your spouse, aunt, niece, or coworker, or simply taking on your tablet as the perfect companion on a long plane ride. Just be sure you warn the passenger next to you that you will be wiping away tears of joy and shaking with laughter for the duration of the flight, or until the flight attendant tells you to put The Pseudobook away until landing.
