When first-responders leave the scene of a disaster, the survivors often become overwhelmed by the trauma, shock, and stress brought about by losing a home or being displaced. The state of chaos created by disasters coupled with the lack of knowledge of what to do in the aftermath makes disaster survivors vulnerable to the many pitfalls that present themselves in the days, weeks, and months that follow.


Although few people consider the urgency of being prepared for a disaster, fewer still are prepared to rebound when everything is lost. This is why one of the most common questions survivors ask first responders is “what do I do now?” The Red Guide to Recovery – Resource Handbook for Disaster Survivors was written specifically to answer this question and give Native Americans the tools and knowledge they need to make informed decisions so they can successfully recover and rebuild their homes and lives.


Having witnessed first-hand the many difficulties disaster survivors faced in the aftermath of wildfires, earthquakes, floods, and other disasters, Sean Scott, a disaster restoration contractor and recovery expert, realized an unmet need. Compelled to share his 39 plus years of disaster recovery and construction experience, Mr. Scott embarked on a mission to create a comprehensive, yet easy to use recovery road-map to give disaster survivors the tools they need to effectively navigate the recovery process. The Red Guide to Recovery - Resource Handbook for Disaster Survivors embodies this mission by empowering individuals, families, and communities on what steps to take immediately after a disaster as well as offering tips on how to be prepared to recover in advance.
