The Religious Experience of the Roman People
Descripción editorial
This book contains a series of lectures, delivered in Edinburgh by the historian William Warde Fowler. It offers a detailed insight into the religious practices of the Romans (up to the age of Augustus). As such the book is informative, and terms like lustratio, lectisternium, ludi saeculares and the like come to life. It also gives a good idea to what degree Roman religion was a state-religion. He shows the common origin of Roman law and roman religion; and furthermore, throughout the whole book he links the development of the roman religion with the actual history of Rome.
