Publisher Description
He has fought the fight, and run the race.
But the enemies never stop coming, and the race has no finish line.
It has been three months since Captain Lee Harden found the survivors at Camp Ryder. With winter looming, Lee is on the verge of establishing Camp Ryder as a hub of safety and stability in the region. But not everyone agrees with Lee's mission. . .or his methods. Growing tensions between camp leadership are coming to a head, and as Lee struggles amid the dissention and controversy, new revelations about the infected threaten to destroy everything he has worked for.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Anxiety and building desperation fuel this debut zombie thriller, the first in a series that already has a significant online fan base. Army Capt. Lee Harden is alone in an underground bunker, preparing to return to a world where the FURY virus has turned most of the population into homicidal cannibals. Sharply targeted sentences depict an acutely human action hero who wrestles his anxiety by packing and unpacking his gear, trying to find online porn in a post-Internet world, and playing with his dog. Amply trained and armed, Lee is nonetheless a nauseated shaking mess as he emerges with little understanding of what he's up against. With a handful of survivors, he embarks on a sweaty, frantic, bloody scramble across the surreally placid North Carolina countryside. Though this first installment is less a story than an establishment of scene and players, Molles's precise construction gives readers ample reason to return, as does the agonizing companion novella, which provides an unnerving view of what occurred while Lee was waiting to begin his mission.
Customer Reviews
Hooked
This is the best apocalyptic type story I've ever read. The author is superb. He hooked me in and leaves me wanting more. It drives me crazy that a reviewer complained about the 2.99 cost of the two short additional stories. I would have paid triple that considering the rest of series is so reasonably priced. Considering the price of other books, this series is bargain. I've never had a book get me so excited and scared that my heart pounded and hands shook.
Another Triumph
These books and the story arcs keep getting better and better. As soon as I am done writing this I will be getting book Four: Fractured. I love the character development DJ knows how to weave a tale.
Beware of bait and switch
Good books, but the last two are only 50 pages!
Some brilliant marketing idiot decided that if you get the customer hooked then they will have to buy the last 2 books each with only 50 pages.
Well, I'm going to let the story end in the middle. I won't be ransomed!
