Set in 1956, The Remains of the Day follows narrator and exemplary English butler Mr. James Stevens as he embarks on a driving tour of the countryside, reminiscing about his decades of dutiful service at Darlington Hall and anticipating a meeting with his former colleague, Miss Kenton. Stevens’ reflections gradually form an impression of missed opportunities and misplaced allegiances, leading to loss of pride, self-doubt, and regret. The novel is a poignant and beautifully crafted lesson in humanity.

Fairly standard plot that ventures on absurdism, but well-written and full of subtle charm. Would read again.
Great Novel
Intuitive novel about the Everyman who all too often day in and day out works a job in pursuit of praise but often with a blind eye to love,hate and life going around them . Thought provoking and a devastating read.
