The Renegade Spy

Life as a fugitive is never predictable but owning his destiny is the only way for Taj to be free.  He's survived fate's every whim with his wits and ingenuity. When the law finally catches up, he finds redemption in the same structured control he's been avoiding for a lifetime.  Out of luck, out of time, Taj must determine where fate takes him next, and how many lives he ruins along the way.

As deputy to the Arcinian rebel leader, Taj enjoys the freedom he craves, afforded the ability to help as many commoners as he can with his limited resources.  His generosity and selflessness has earned him the loyalty of his many friends. But no amount of charity can absolve his guilt over his numerous failures or the pain he's inflicted.  No atonement can heal his broken family. One day fate will come to collect and Taj already knows he'll pay with his independence.

Vaan's life is ordered, scheduled, pristine.  He takes great pride in his position of authority and discipline as a knight in the Royal Guard, following every order and representing his leaders with impeccable decorum.  His prince's word is irrefutable law. It's when that word puts Vaan in direct defiance of the law that his carefully structured life is turned on its head. Without a clear set of rules to guide him, he'll need to follow instinct instead and hope he can continue to hide the one mistake that can ruin him.

Rebel and knight.  Outlaw and executioner.  Diametrically destined to oppose.  If they can see past their fundamental differences and learn to work together, then perhaps they can stop the destructive greed and ambition threatening to plunge the Sehaannian capital into chaos.  As a team, they could change life for the lower class forever. But lies and secrets tend to rip alliances apart, and the ones building between Taj and Vaan might be too difficult for them to overcome.
