The Retreat

As Tim reached the trailhead, the sun was just rising. The temperature was somewhere in the sixties, maybe a little less, with heavy blanketing of snow at the trailhead. The weather was typical for this time of year in Northern New England. He thought about the seasons in Vermont and how they could change quickly, especially at this time of year or any other. Tim missed the seasons in New England while he was in the hot desert, where the sand burned to the touch. The jungle was not much better than the desert. The canopy of the trees held the heat below, with bugs and snakes, which could make a person ill or even kill them.
