Publisher Description

When Alex Patrick was assaulted by another student last year, her elite boarding school wouldn't do anything about it. This year Alex is head of the Mockingbirds, a secret society of students who police and protect the student body. While she desperately wants to live up to the legacy that's been given to her, she's now dealing with a case unlike any the Mockingbirds have seen before.

It isn't rape. It isn't bullying. It isn't hate speech. A far-reaching prescription drug ring has sprung up, and students are using the drugs to cheat. But how do you try a case with no obvious victim? Especially when the facts don't add up, and each new clue drives a wedge between Alex and the people she loves most: her friends, her boyfriend, and her fellow Mockingbirds.

As Alex unravels the layers of deceit within the school, the administration, and even the student body the Mockingbirds protect, her struggle to navigate the murky waters of vigilante justice may reveal more about herself than she ever expected.

Amazing

I finished this book in one day. The fact that Alex can admit to making mistakes makes her a very believable character and I love her! The complexities of the relationships in the book make it so that the supporting cast (Maia, T.S., and Martin) are also believable, that they are human beings, and human beings have conflict. For very much of this book, I found myself on the brink of tears. Martin Summers should be a teen male literary sensation; he's everything a girl could ask for. For anyone who has (or even hasn't) read "The Mockingbirds," this is a must-read!

Ms. Whitney, you are a brilliant writer, right up there with Gayle Forman and Laurie Halse Anderson.

Even better than the first one

I really loved this book. It deals with all the issues typical teens deal with (first love, bullying, peer pressure, friendship). Having gone to boarding school it speaks to me in personal way including the cliques and the pranks (though ours were never this severe).

We had issues with drugs. The spot where kids did them even showed up on yearbook pages.

I plan to buy a book for both the middle school and the high school here. Hoping I can get them autographed!!!
