Emma and her friends discover that similar events have occurred throughout the region for decades: buildings inexplicably shrink, sections of rooms disappear, and people vanish with them.

At the center of the mystery is the Surveyor, an ancient presence associated with measurements, impossible geometry, and the acquisition of physical spaces. Its method is terrifyingly precise: clocks stop, a room is measured, and after thirteen seconds, anyone who remains inside can become part of a different floor plan.

Emma's connection to the phenomenon makes her one of the few people capable of seeing what is really happening. Alongside Julian Blackwood, Mia, Benjamin, and Tyler—whose experimental Null Compass detects discrepancies between interior and exterior space—she must understand the rules of the Understructure, rescue those it has taken, and confront the legacy left behind by Blackwood before the phenomenon spreads beyond isolated rooms.

The novel combines supernatural horror, mystery, dark fantasy, and thriller elements, using architecture itself as the source of fear. Walls cannot be trusted. Blueprints may describe more than buildings. A doorway can lead somewhere that should not exist—and once the Surveyor begins measuring, reality itself can be rewritten.
