The Rose Queen's Crown

In the picturesque North Yorkshire town of Rosebridge, preparations are underway for the annual summer flower festival. Eleanor Finch is curating an exhibition on the history of the celebration, while Naomi Price oversees the practical running of the festival and its modern Rose Queen competition.
Among the five finalists, Amelia Vane is the obvious favourite. Elegant, capable and from one of Rosebridge's best-known families, she also happens to be the daughter of a major festival sponsor. Primary school teacher Lucy Harrow, meanwhile, hardly expects to win at all.
Yet Lucy receives the highest score.
Minutes after her coronation, she suddenly becomes ill. Soon afterwards, Eleanor discovers a handwritten message hidden behind the velvet lining of the nearly century-old festival crown:
“You were not supposed to win.”
