The Sacred Way
I very much enjoyed this book and have re-read it many times. I fear much of evangelical Christianity has lost its roots of spirituality. We know nothing of the ancient rhythms. Jones does a fantastic work unveiling both the historical and theological approaches to ancient spiritual disciplines within the Christian community and even includes his own personal notes on each discipline he unveils.
Some may call spiritual disciplines a "ritual" practice bordering on the line of legalism. The danger of anything is that we can become legalistic or too lax. Finding the balance is key. Take a lesson from Jesus who practiced these disciplines daily: reading, service, meditation, fasting, silence, solitude, prayer, healing, spiritual direction, etc.
This is a great book for anyone as it opens up a rich history of our beliefs which extend past the more common Protestant period and into the ancient Mediterranean day from which Christianity evolved.
Highly recommended!
