A super duper, mind bending treat.
I’m grateful I had 15 years of psychoanalysis to help me make sense of how my particular mixed-up, crash prone, well meaning brain works. But if only I’d had this book as a guide on that journey! How much quicker could I have come to the conclusions laid out so elegantly and accessibly in this special book? The ideas are borrowed from every religion, philosophy, and branch of psychology, it’s a survey of worldviews from renowned masters of introspection from throughout recorded history as much as it is self-helpful (and I learned self-help isn’t even a real thing! that paragraph alone… OY!) I learned that we can live more comfortably in our heads and hearts if we know some of the basic workings of our minds, and that simple truths that can be understood by anyone can so fundamentally make everything you think and feel easier to bear. Complex ideas and simple truths are laid out side by side for nuanced takeaways and smart ideas to think about during your day. My life is seriously way more fun than it was just a week ago before I got a hold of this book. What a treat… get into it!! AND PASS IT AROUND!!

I like the concepts in it but it’s not a very exciting read. It tries to touch on so many things that it’s hard to follow the narrative and where it’s heading.
