The Secret Christmas

Sweet story, wonderful characters

Small towns love to do up the Christmas holiday like no other time of the year. A town called Christmas Valley would have the best presentation with the citizens loving and appreciating every element of it. However, this small town, despite its name, doesn't do Christmas at all. One of the town's wealthy residents has decreed there shall be no decorating or celebrating the holiday in his town. Mr. Frost lost his wife several years prior. Since then, he closed himself off from the town he and his wife loved so much. He bought up all the property in town and even some residences. Because he owned nearly all of Christmas Valley, he made sure that no one would celebrate Christmas while he was still alive. There is a story to go with Mr. Frost's 'Scrooge' behavior but I'll let you unravel that on your own.

Nicholas and Angela.......
Two childhood best friends separated by life circumstances. When Nicholas's uncle is injured, he is summoned to Christmas Valley after so many years. His uncle wants him to be his spy and make sure the town is not sneaking around behind his back, since he can't do it himself. To say Nick is shocked by his uncle's behavior is an understatement. Additionally, Nick is shocked by the lack of Christmas in the town, as he had many fond memories from that time of the year.

While Angela is surprised and delighted to see her 'Nicky' after so many years; she is suspicious of him. You see, Angela and the delightful citizens of Christmas Valley are planning a 'secret Christmas.' Trusting Nicky might be a huge mistake. She hasn't seen or heard from him in years. How could she trust someone she hardly knows to keep the town's biggest secret.

While these two become close and their feelings turn from friends to something more, the clock is ticking. Christmas Eve is coming and so is the nearing departure of Nicholas. He has a life in another state that he plans to return to. So, how will he and Angela work.

I really enjoyed this sweet story. The characters are so lovable, the town and its citizens are fierce and loyal and even grumpy Mr. Frost's icy heart will melt. There is humor and a touch of angst to keep you turning those pages. I was endeared by this book as a whole; there were so many memorable moments. I would love to visit this town again while Christmas is done up properly. Though, I don't know if these authors are planning another trip to Christmas Valley but if they are, I'm definitely coming along!
