After losing his mother, eleven-year-old Josh goes to live with his Uncle Calum at his farm on a remote Scottish island. Uprooted and lonely, Josh soon finds a companion—an abandoned Border collie pup in need of being rescued. But Uncle Calum has a strict rule against pets—every animal on his farm must earn its keep. So Josh must raise his new friend Reggae in secret.


As the pup grows up, Josh gets some much-needed help from the local vet's daughter. And soon he decides to train Reggae for the local sheepdog trials. But When someone discovers Josh's secret, will it mean losing his friend forever?
