Her patients are dying. Some are apparent suicides and others possible accidents, but rumors are flying that Dr. Zoe Goldman is an angel of death- intentionally helping hopeless cases go to a "better place"- or, worse yet, a dangerously incompetent doctor.
As a new psychiatry fellow at the local correctional facility, Zoe is still learning the ropes while watching her back to avoid some dangerous prisoners. As the deaths mount up, Zoe is wracked with horror and guilt, feverishly trying to figure out what is going wrong and even questioning her own sanity.
What Zoe doesn't realize is that someone is targeting her patients to get to her. Someone who has access to her deepest secrets and fears. Someone who will stop at nothing to take everything Zoe has, even her life.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Block's convoluted third Zoe Goldman novel (after 2015's The Girl Without a Name) finds forensic psychiatrist Zoe working at the Buffalo Correctional Facility in Buffalo, N.Y. Zoe's boss, Dr. "Nowhere" Novaire, has instituted an ill-thought-out new program that puts Zoe in direct contact with her psychopathic sister, Sofia. A new case of a delusional teenager imprisoned for attacking his father has Zoe investigating the family to find the truth behind the boy's hallucinations. And Zoe can't seem to shake a persistent flu. To make matters worse, a number of patients under Zoe's care commit suicide. Could Sofia be behind the deaths? As the body count rises, a persistent reporter keeps showing up to interview Zoe for a series of articles about the prison's psychiatric program. Meanwhile, her live-in boyfriend, Mike, is receiving flirtatious texts from Serena, a pretty coworker. Fans can only hope for a return to form next time.)

Complex, Gripping Thriller!
The Secret Room is a compelling and brilliantly crafted thriller.
Mysterious deaths were piling up at the Buffalo Correctional Facility, and the common denominator in all of them, was their psychiatrist, Dr. Zoe Goldman.
Dr. Zoe Goldman was a mess. She couldn’t sleep, eat or shut off her mind. She was being called into the Warden’s office on a regular basis. Someone was killing her patients and sending her chilling texts. And, to add to Dr. Goldman’s already over-the-top anxiety, Zoe was keeping a huge secret from, Mike, the man she loved. Zoe suspected the person behind the texts and suspicious deaths, was her very own psychopathic sister, Sophie. And why not? It wasn’t as if Sophie hadn’t killed someone Zoe loved, before.
The Secret Room kept me on edge from the very beginning of the book until the end. It’s a complex thriller with many twists, turns, and surprises. I found the characters fascinating, the dialog natural and the writing superb. I loved it. I was thrilled to add Sandra Block to my list of favorite authors. Now, I can’t wait for her next gripping novel!
