Publisher Description

Meg’s dreams seem to predict the future—but can she make a better future for herself? “Filled with sensitivity and warmth” (Children’s Book Review Service).

“It was crazy to have dreams that came true. If you talked about them, it’d upset the people you loved and make them angry. Meg had learned something bad about herself, an ugly secret.” And so she decided to keep the dreams to herself, writing them down in a special notebook. Sometimes her dreams were pleasant, but other times they were disturbing—especially the one about the cave with the blue light.

When Meg’s worst dreams begin to come true, she’s convinced they bring bad luck. Why else would her father move out to “find himself” or her best friend desert her for a rowdy crowd of older kids? Meg’s grandmother and a wonderful new neighbor finally help her realize that her “secret window” into the future can bring good luck, if understood properly.

ES the horror fan ,

Not her scariest book, but still a good story!

The Secret Window is about Meg, a girl with a very unique kind of psychic power. She dreams about events before they happen. At first, she keeps her ability, which is sometimes very frightening, to herself. Then she discovers that her grandmother also has dreams that come true. Meg’s fears are only slightly alleviated by her grandmother’s reassurance that her powers don’t make her any less of a normal person. But it will take using her gift to save a friend’s life to help Meg accept herself as she is. This book is full of wonderfully realistic, convincing storytelling that makes it very sweet and touching! Meg’s big brother is only one of the other likeable characters, simply because he is a very sweet brother, probably the kind of boy any girl would want for a brother, especially an older sibling. Betty Ren Wright’s fans will love this book! Fans of her ghost stories should definitely read the sequel, a book I would like to read myself, called A Ghost in the Window!
