Plunge back into the heart-pounding world of the Forensic Instincts series, from New York Times bestselling author Andrea Kane.
The Forensic Instincts team needs to find out who wants Madeline Westfield dead—and why. Under the leadership of Casey Woods, the investigators have the resources to do just that, working inside the law—and outside it. Casey’s associate, former navy SEAL Marc Devereaux, is a man who’s equal to any situation. Except maybe this one…
Because Madeline is the only woman Marc’s ever loved—and his only weakness. Now a nurse at Manhattan Memorial, she’s terrified. Her life is in danger, so she turns to him for help.
Manhattan Memorial is in turmoil. There’s a merger in the works, and the staff is still haunted by their hospital administrator’s sudden death—during heart surgery performed by Madeline’s ex-husband, Conrad. A surgery at which Madeline was present.
With a growing list of suspects, Forensic Instincts will have to figure out who has the greatest motive to silence Madeline. And they’ll have to do it fast.

In bestseller Kane's prosaic fourth Forensic Instincts novel (after 2013's The Stranger You Know), an attempt on the life of Madeline Westfield sends her to the FI team, which is led by behavioral expert Casey Woods. The quest for Madeline's would-be killer centers on Manhattan Memorial Hospital, where she is a surgical nurse; her ex-husband, Conrad, a cardiothoracic surgeon, heads the cardio unit. The hospital is in a state of nervous flux: former administrator Ronald Lexington died after an operation by Conrad, who is now in a mental health facility. Unpopular Jacob Casper, interim administrator, is pushing for a merger with New York Medical Center, which threatens staff positions. Ronald's bitter widow, Nancy, is one suspect, but there are plenty of others as Casey and the members of her super team uncover a wide range of rivalries and jealousies. Unfortunately, their efforts don't generate much heat.
