Each page a picture of terra exotica
The Silent Places in one of White's earliest works and I think his best. It is the story of two men determined to succeed. One man demonstrates the arrogance, eagerness and vigor of youth. While the other is the wisdom, sureness and patience of experience. They team up to form an unbeatable force with which they meet the challenges of the far north. It is comparable to Jack London's Yukon tales, of which it is a contemporary, or of Hemingway.
