The Soldier

Private John W. Emmett was nineteen years old when the world ended.

He had just finished basic training, had a girl waiting for him at home, and believed the future was already mapped out: a steady paycheck, a small apartment, a ring for Maddie, and a life they would build together.

Then the dead began to rise.

Called back to duty as cities collapsed and military lines failed, John finds himself fighting an enemy no one understands while trying to hold on to the last message Maddie sent him:

Come find me.

When a rescue mission goes wrong, John dies before he can keep that promise.

But death does not stop him.

John wakes changed. His heart no longer beats. The dead ignore him. His memories are fractured, his words are few, and even his own name sometimes feels distant. Yet pieces of his training remain, along with one stubborn purpose buried deeper than death itself.

Along the way, he discovers that duty can survive death, memory can be more fragile than flesh, and sometimes coming home does not mean getting back the life you lost.

The Soldier is a character-driven post-apocalyptic novella about love, duty, memory, and the promises we keep long after everything else is gone.
