The author’s personal life-adventures offer a timeline to introduce many extreme sports, along with stories, quotes, and photographs from others who have pursued these paths. This 375 page book, with over 325 enlargeable photographs, is divided into four Parts broken up into 25 Chapters. Part I: ‘Hills, Mountains, and Soaring Peaks’ included chapters on ski racing, freestyle skiing, helicopter skiing, and more. Part II: ‘Lakes, Oceans, Wind, and Waves’ explores slalom water skiing, ocean sailing, surfing, and windsurfing in high winds and surf. Part III: ‘Long and Winding Roads’ contains tales of motorcycle adventures. Lastly, Part IV: ‘Flying Through Space’ contains stories of parachuting, hang-gliding, and cliff diving. The book closes with a philosophical exploration of the mental challenges and numerous rewards found along the Icarus path.

A Thrilling Ride with the Master Teacher
Not only is this an exhilarating ride with one of the longtime preeminent ski and windsurf instructors in the United States, but it gives an inside history and evolution of skiing and windsurfing over the past 40+ years. Strap on your wings as you fly close to the sun with Master Teacher, John Crews. And what a ride it is!
The Spirit of Icarus
What a great read full of adventures told truly in “The Spirit of Icarus” so well written and humorous at times I was literally LOL while reading! Being of a similar mindset as the author and having some of the same interests (although not quite to his level of extreme) I could very much relate to the experiences and thoroughly enjoyed the book!
THE SPIRIT OF ICARUS
This book is a home run with the bases loaded. If you love to ski, surf or any other high adventure sport, this book is for you. Filled with wonderful ski and surfing episodes from all over the world. It includes much about the history of skiing along with exciting stories about many of the great historical skiers of all time. It’s a winner!
