Exciting, Thought-Provoking Historical Novel
Ben does a fabulous job of weaving together social constructs such as racism, growing up, and young love in a historical context set in Shakertown, Kentucky in the 20th Century. The tension builds at a pace that keeps you interested in the story, you care about the characters, and his foreshadowing, while apparent, doesn’t overshadow the story. An excellent read for middle grades to adult. I learned a lot and relived parts of my own youth.
