#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR • Stephen King’s landmark post-apocalyptic novel gave us a vision of a world blasted by plague and torn between good and evil—and helped make him “an undisputed master of suspense and terror” (The Washington Post).
One of The Atlantic’s Great American Novels of the Past 100 Years. This edition includes all of the new and restored material first published in The Stand: The Complete and Uncut Edition.
A patient escapes from a biological testing facility, unknowingly carrying a deadly weapon: a mutated strain of super-flu that will wipe out 99 percent of the world’s population within a few weeks. Those who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader. Two emerge—Mother Abagail, the benevolent 108-year-old woman who urges them to build a peaceful community in Boulder, Colorado; and Randall Flagg, the nefarious “Dark Man,” who delights in chaos and violence. As the dark man and the peaceful woman gather power, the survivors will have to choose between them—and ultimately decide the fate of all humanity.

It’s the stand.
Of course it’s a 5 star review.
One of King’s Best
If you haven’t read this before, do yourself a favor and buy the edited and abridged version. I have both books- abridged and unabridged- in hardback, and I bought this one because it was on sale. I skipped countless pages. I should’ve bought the shorter ebook. (FIVE STARS FOR THE FULLY EDITED & ABRIDGED COPY OF THE STAND!!)
It's Dante's Inferno, the book of Revelations, and a Johnny Cash song all rolled into one!
An excellent book filled to the brim with vibrant description of all around it (admittedly there was some description that i could have done without). However it does seem a bit disappointing at the end... (SPOILER ALERT!!! !PU SWOLB LLA TI) Very slow but Stu and Tom's journey home was very well done, if a little tough to read at times. Over all, a good read and an excellent book.
