The Storage Building Key

RJ Faulconer is sticking his nose where it doesn't belong again. Less than a month after trying to locate a missing high school girl leads him to uncovering a major drug trafficking operation in his small Ohio hometown, RJ and his best pal, Horace Dingle, are in deep, deep trouble at the hands of one of Bloomfield’s “good guys.”

This story begins with RJ and his mother driving upon the scene of a fatal accident on a county highway one morning in January 1996. A man lying in the road has just been run over by a speeding car. A couple of days later, the best friend of the first victim dies in a motorcycle crash. Both deaths have been ruled accidents. The second victim’s girlfriend, however, doesn’t think so. She contacts RJ and asks for him to look into a key left behind by her deceased boyfriend. RJ, who is smitten by the attractive older girl, gladly accepts the invitation, but for all the wrong reasons. Were the deaths of two best friends merely days apart a coincidence? Were the two friends murdered? Did the storage building key have anything to do with the deaths? RJ and Horace eventually discover the significance of the key, but almost lose something much more precious in the process — their lives!

Many of the circumstances surrounding the storage building key, and RJ's life, seem to happen by chance. At least, that’s how RJ sees it as he looks back on them fifteen years later.
