The Story of What Happened on the Way to Canaan

God told Moses he wanted to make an agreement with the Israelites.  He promised to give them the land of Canaan and make them his chosen people.  Moses read God's laws to the people and had them swear to follow it.  Moses used twelve big stones to build an altar at the foot of the mountain.  Each stone represented one tribe of Israel.  But when Moses went up to the mountain to talk to God.   For many days he had not returned.  Then people start to make a shiny golden calf, celebrate and danced around the gold calf.  God was very mad about what they were doing because the people already broke their promise to God.  What happened to them?
