The Straightened Road

A call from their mother pulls Brian, Scott, and Matt Caldwell back to the lake cabin they haven’t shared in years. A septic inspection has a deadline. Their father is still there, but he’s forgetting—words, names, the order of familiar things. Brian drives in from North Carolina. Scott follows from Chicago on little sleep. Matt flies in from out west with his son. The brothers arrive with obligations waiting behind them, trying to make the week feel like work instead of what it is.
