Mia just wanted a summer away to forget it all.
After Mia is unexpectedly dumped by Jake, a summer having relaxing fun with her family in the Hamptons sounds like the perfect beach escape. But her cousin Corinne's new elitist attitude is definitely not what Mia was expecting, and neither is all the family drama. Mia starts to feel more like an outsider than ever before.
Enter Simon, the boy staying next door. He's adventurous, quirky, smart, and seems to want to get to know Mia. And he's definitely not part of Corinne's "cool" crowd. Simon starts to rub off on Mia, and she finally begins to open up—including sneaking out, taking late-night walks on the beach, and maybe even falling in love. The summer might just turn out better than she had originally planned.
But coming out of her shell could mean losing everything Mia has gained.
The Summer of Skinny Dipping is perfect for those looking for:

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This sweet though sometimes rambling story about family, love, and loss is narrated by 16-year-old Mia, who is spending the summer with her family at her relatives' beach house in the Hamptons, where everyone "looked so happy, so glowing and perfect." Though she and her cousin Corinne had once been close, Corinne is now more interested in drinking, drugs, and socializing with the popular crowd. Self-conscious about her comparatively voluptuous body and displaced among her cousins and their wealthy friends, Mia struggles to keep up while staying true to herself. At a summer bash, Mia meets Simon, whose family is renting a nearby mansion. Like Mia, Simon doesn't fit in; Corinne warns he is just "LC. Lower class." At first they meet in secret, taking long walks on the beach, during which Simon encourages Mia join him for late-night skinny dipping. As she and Simon grow closer, Mia emerges from her shell. And when tragedy strikes, she is changed forever. First-time novelist Howells's teen and adult characters are well-developed, and Mia's growth and new perspective on her own good fortune are satisfying. Ages 14 up.

Really wonderful!
I loved everything about this story. The style of writing, the attention given to details, the fascinating assortment of characters, the setting of summer in the Hamptons, and of course, the profound beautiful bittersweetness of the story itself. This will be high on my short list of favorites! I only wish the author would write another, and another, and another…☺️
I hate sad books but I’ll admit this was good
felt like I should write a review as someone who HATES sad stuff. Although you should be prepared to cry, even I’ll admit that this story was so beautifully written. While I maybe would’ve wished for a different ending, the way the story wraps up is partly what makes the story so unforgettable and captivating. A beautiful coming of age romance with incredible twists and turns. Congrats to the author for making me actually respect and enjoy a sad book
