Publisher Description

Two sisters reconnect and pursue their dreams on the beautiful island of Nantucket, overcoming life’s challenges and finding new love, in this heartwarming and hopeful novel by New York Times bestselling author Nancy Thayer.

Eddie Grant is happy with her life and her work as a personal assistant to Dinah Lavender, one of the most famous and renowned romance authors in the business. But being a spectator to notoriety and glamour isn’t as fulfilling as she once thought. Thankfully, Eddie has the perfect excuse for a vacation: Her hardworking younger sister, Barrett, is opening her gift shop on Memorial Day weekend, and could use all the help she can get.

But going home to the beautiful island of Nantucket means facing the family’s difficult past. Shortly after the death of Eddie and Barrett’s brother, their mother left them and their father made the spontaneous decision to buy a small farm. Eddie stayed there for only a year before her family’s grief threatened to consume her as well, and had been living in Manhattan ever since. Now that she is back, Eddie must face all she left behind: her father’s increased eccentricities, which has led to a house bursting at the seams with books; her sister’s resentment over Eddie’s escape; and a past love connection, one that is still undeniable and complicated, all these years later. But the Grant sisters are nothing if not resilient and capable, opening a used bookstore in their father’s abandoned barn to manage his hoarding, and navigating the discovery of a long-buried family secret that will change all of them forever.

In The Summer We Started Over, beloved storyteller Nancy Thayer transports readers with a moving story about family, courage, and the resiliency of young women.

Great start for the Beach read season!

A beautiful story of two sisters, Eddie and Barrett, along with their hermit of their father who also is a hoarder of books. Eddie loves her fast paced, glamorous lifestyle as an assistant to a famous romance novelist. She heads to Nantucket after two years since she did promise her sister that she would come and help out when she opens her shop. Which is Barrett passion and dream come true. Not only does Eddie reconnect with her sister and helps with her dad’s problems, she also finds that she never stopped loving Jeff.
The farmhouse is soon overflowing with guests and one learns that change can be good. A story of 1st love, 2nd chance love and heartbreaking selfless love…..have the tissues ready.
Thank you #NetGalley for this ARC. The review expresses my honest opinion and mine along. #TheSummerWeStartedOver

The summer winds will bring back memories of their youth!!

It wouldn’t be summer without a delightful and heartfelt story from Nancy Thayer. I look forward to her new books every year and I was thrilled to receive an early copy of this wonderful book. With Nantucket as the backdrop, we meet sisters Eddie and Barrett and their father, William, who live in a quaint farmhouse with their adorable dog and an aloof, but loveable horse.

Most people would give anything to live on Nantucket, but eldest sister Eddie chose the bright lights of New York City as her home. She works for a popular romance author, which sounds like a dream job to me, but when her sister needed her, she raced back home to the island paradise. Barrett was opening up her own shop called Nantucket Blues, and she desperately needed Eddie’s emotional support at this special time in her life. Romance was in the air for both sisters and their father’s life was about to change in more ways than one.

The peacefulness and allure of Nantucket called to Eddie as she enjoyed her coffee on the deck while contemplating her choices in life. Barrett loved her life on the island and embraced every sunrise with hope and positivity. Their lives hadn’t been full of happiness but they had weathered the storm of sadness and leaned on each other for the strength to carry on. The summer winds bring back memories of their youth and a surprise visitor adds colorful conversation and an air of mystery to their happy home. It sounds like a house full of love, laughter and hope, and I am sure the magic of the island will make all their dreams come true.
