The Texas Hawk

Walt Slade, ace lieutenant of the Texas Rangers, is a man most feared by the owlhoots and dry-gulchers of the old Texas Border. The sight of this tall lawman with the lightning-fast draw astride his great black horse, Shadow, symbolizes defense of the innocent and the end of reckless careers of lawlessness. 

However, having constantly felt the brush with death, Slade knew things will never be easy.   

Even so, Slade sprang with all his strength and brought his bound hands around the Karankawa Indian's throat; just as he went for his gun. Slade lunged and grabbed the barrel as the Indian pulled the trigger. The slug furrowed his arm and the hot iron seared his hand. 

Rolling, lurching, they slammed into the table. The lamp smashed on the floor. Flaming oil flooded the tinder-dry boards and a wall of flame soared to the roof, enveloping them both in an inferno of doom.
