There’s Often a Fine Line Between a Criminal and a Saint
Constable Jackson Forge intends to make the world safer, or at least the streets of Victorian London. But that’s Kit Turner’s domain, a swindler who runs a crew that acquires money the old-fashioned way—conning the rich to give to the poor. When a local cab driver goes missing, Jackson is tasked with finding the man, and the only way to do that is by enlisting Kit’s help. If Jackson doesn’t find the cabby, he’ll be fired. If Kit doesn’t help Jackson, he’ll arrest her for thievery. Yet neither of them realize those are the least of their problems.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Griep (The House at the End of the Moor) delivers a charming story about a talented thief, a bumbling constable, and their reluctant partnership. Jackson Forge is rushing to start his first day as constable in 1885 London when he's pickpocketed by Kit, who is nicknamed "Robin Hood in a Skirt" and lives to help the poor residents of Blackfriar's Lane by stealing from rich Londoners. Later, Jackson seeks out Kit when he is given the assignment to find cabby Joe Card, who has gone missing. Joe, as it happens, had taken in Kit years before. Kit introduces Jackson to many characters of London's underworld, who are all reluctant to speak at first but eventually open up under gun-toting Jackson's strong-arm techniques. Jackson's strong sense of ethics and deep faith, meanwhile, shatter the lies Kit has long believed about her noble life of thievery. While they may differ in their approach to finding and pursuing leads, the two develop a mutual respect that develops into a predictable yet pleasingly off-kilter romance. Jackson's eagerness and Kit's boldness prove to be a perfect match, allowing Griep to explore both the tribulations of Victorian poverty and the powers of salvation. Fans of Kristy Cambron should take a look.

antics and interesting, well created characters.
The story takes the reader on a scary trip through
London’s underground in 1885. Intrigue, suspense,

My schemes to help the needy of Blackfriars may be unorthodox, Mr. Forge, but sometimes they have little else. - Kit
This author never disappoints! An action-packed adventure with a little romance on Blackfriars Lane, this story full of mystery and intrigue leading to danger will keep you awake far into the night. Kit, a young lady who grew up in the foundling home, hopes to make a difference in the lives of the needy and downtrodden in her part of London.
Jackson Forge is a newly hired constable, who wants to redeem what he sees as his failure from years earlier. His enthusiasm and Kit’s novel methods had me laughing until there were tears in my eyes. Can they or will they let God redeem their failures and turn them into something good? Will their search for one missing man be successful? What other information will they uncover?
This fabulous adventure that you don’t want to miss was received through Barbour Publishing and NetGalley. The impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.
