Publisher Description
#1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER • In this electrifying thriller, Inspector Harry Hole hunts down a serial murderer who targets his victims—on Tinder. • Part of the New York Times bestselling series.
The murder victim, a self-declared Tinder addict. The one solid clue—fragments of rust and paint in her wounds—leaves the investigating team baffled.
Two days later, there’s a second murder: a woman of the same age, a Tinder user, an eerily similar scene.
The chief of police knows there’s only one man for this case. But Harry Hole is no longer with the force. He promised the woman he loves, and he promised himself, that he’d never go back: not after his last case, which put the people closest to him in grave danger.
But there’s something about these murders that catches his attention, something in the details that the investigators have missed. For Harry, it’s like hearing “the voice of a man he was trying not to remember.” Now, despite his promises, despite everything he risks, Harry throws himself back into the hunt for a figure who haunts him, the monster who got away.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Harry Hole fans rejoice! The 11th outing in Jo Nesbø’s popular series contains all the juiciest elements of a Scandinavian crime drama: flawed detectives, complicated politics, plenty of sex, and, of course, horrifically bizarre murders. Told in Nesbø’s trademark punchy, noir style, The Thirst continues his tradition of making Oslo as much of a character as the victims, the villain, or even Hole himself. You don’t need to have read the first 10 books to dive into this one, but you might want to check out Police if you’re curious about the killer’s full backstory.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Bestseller Nesb 's exceptional 11th Harry Hole novel (after 2013's Police) finds the alcoholic, demon-ridden, occasionally suicidal Oslo police detective in better shape than usual. Harry is "currently a sober lecturer at Police College." In the past, he often woke up full of angst; now he's consistently waking up feeling happy. As for his marriage to his great love, Rakel, "If he could have, he would have been more than happy to copy and paste the three years that had passed since the wedding and relive those days over and over again." Of course, this relatively blissful state can't last. Harry soon joins the hunt for a serial killer, whose MO cutting the throats of his victims in vampire fashion is similar to that of the one killer who escaped him and still invades his dreams. Meanwhile, Rakel slips into a mysterious coma. Nesb depicts a heartbreakingly conflicted Harry, who both wants to forget the horrors he's trying to prevent and knows he has to remember them in all their grim detail. Customer Reviews
Nesbo never disappoints !
I've read all of his books & I find them great reads & different in many ways from other thrillers. Harry Hole is amazing ! All in all fun stuff !! I will continue to follow Nesbo & Harry & the assorted characters on that police force !
Not Nesbo normal
Jo Nesbo will continue to be my favorite and I have read every book but this one was difficult to get through as if he is out of ideas regarding Harry. Parts were a stretch and ridiculous. When Harry had the Metal teeth in his mouth, I almost stopped reading.
Another great ending didn’t see coming
Great read. HH is such an interesting character.
Always anxious to read the next in the series.
