A novella that more likely to leave you bored than scared
James’ The Turn of the Screw is one of those classic works that is known more for being known than for actually being a good story. The story can be characterized as a psychological horror, yet I found it to be overwrought, driven by the hysteria of the narrator than any real sense of dread. Maybe I didn’t get the point, but it definitely left me more confused than scared.
