Publisher Description

In the reign of Henry VIII all bibles were in Latin, leaving the common people unable to read this sacred text.

William Tyndale had always wanted to publish a bible in English but he had to move to Germany to avoid persecution from the King and established church in England, and there, in Worms, he published his first bible in English, in 1526.

The bible was quickly banned in England, and in October of 1526 piles of the book were burned outside St Paul's Cathedral. Tyndale was finally arrested in 1535, and, after a long trial, was strangled and then burnt in 1536.

His work though, paved the way for the King James Bible of 1611, and allowed all men access to the book the book that remains the foundation of Christian faith.

This eBookTreasures facsimile edition contains all 700 pages of one of only two surviving copies of the original 1526 printing.
