The Value of Rain is an intense, brilliantly written first person account of a journey through the heart of a supremely dysfunctional family dynamic. It is not a coming out story though there are elements of that, and it will not wrap you in sunshine and roses, rather darkness and paper flowers, but you won't easily forget it.
