The Very Old Great Failure

Artist and author John Edward Brooks's found poem, based on Thomas Mann's "Snow" from "The Magic Mountain," is a written and visual exploration of the mystery and fragility of life and the mystery and omnipresence of death.  The book-length poem is divided into thirty-four sections and each section is paired with a collage, creating a series of strikingly poignant visual and verbal diptychs.
