The writing belongs to dogs at large; the pictures belong to the breed.

Small sighthounds of this stamp were companions in the ancient Mediterranean and came into their own in Renaissance Italy, where princes kept them and painters could not leave them out. Anne of Denmark, Frederick the Great and Queen Victoria all owned one.
