Takes a while, yet builds up to a compelling read
I have a few quibbles with The Visitors - most of the characters and the dialogue is pretty wooden, the writing is very basic - and yet the story is absolutely fantastic and the build up to the ending had me on the edge of my seat! And, like any good science fiction writer, Simak has some great speculative concepts on aliens and the impacts on humanity that are top-notch. I highly recommend The Visitors!

Compared to the sci-fi writers we have today this book felt a bit elementary and idealistic . I find it difficult to consider it a classic.
