The Walkers - American Heroes

In September 1782 a band of Indians, about twenty-five in numbers, raided the farm of Gabriel and Margaret Walker west of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. The savages abducted five Walker children.  Gabriel and his wife escaped with their two other children after they watched the Indians pillage their house then burn it to the ground.

A rescue party took pursuit.  The Indians had to move fast so they killed then scalped the two youngest of the five children.......leaving the bodies for all to see.

The rescue party took chase but failed in its efforts.

The three children endured a harsh trek for over a month and almost three hundred miles north across the Ohio River to Lake Erie.  There, British soldiers took them to Fort Detroit then confined the children in a stockade with many other colonial prisoners.
