Publisher Description

Set in the near future, The Wanting Seed is a Malthusian comedy about the strange world overpopulation will produce.

Tristram Foxe and his wife, Beatrice-Joanna, live in their skyscraper world where official family limitation glorifies homosexuality. Eventually, their world is transformed into a chaos of cannibalistic dining-clubs, fantastic fertility rituals, and wars without anger. It is a novel both extravagantly funny and grimly serious.

Fantastic book, poor copy

Bogged down by the incredibly overt symbolism (but in the future, history is forgotten, and the term Liberal you’ll learn to love) designed to bludgeon the reader (judging by the reviews of many, they still did not see, nor hear) and terrible copy (it appears that this was scanned, because several letters are misplaced such as “ui” becoming “w”), this is still a very amusing book.

The future is a particularly harrowing one, plausible in its insanity, and particularly British in its descriptions and Ministries. The twists are not quite such (they are spelled out in the description, after all) but it all coalesces to form a unity, the book.

The novel itself follows the stages of government set out in the early chapters (pelphase, interphase, augphase) and coincidentally comes together in the latter parts, when the comedy truly sets in, and leaving behind the rather dull wife, the story opens into a full satire of war, religion, government, and the full capacity of human terror and the will to survive.
